TOPIC
(8 hours) Supercharge your practice! Prosthodontic principles are the fuel!

Course Outline

The vast majority of dental procedures today, are driven by prosthodontic – restorative treatment plans. Diagnosis and treatment planning, whether it be for dental implants; aesthetics, occlusion, endodontic treatments; periodontal disease, complex orthodontic cases, all have at it’s core some aspect of Prosthodontic requirements at the ‘finish line’. Children in a Pediatric dental practice who undergo trauma, or have congenital malformations, very well may require a prosthodontic consult for future treatment planning. Prosthodontic principles are the foundation, upon which many other treatments rely on.

This fast paced 8-hour power point lecture will discuss the following:

  • Diagnosis and Treatment Planning: This is the most important aspect of your dental practice. Spending the time to do this thoroughly will enhance your practice; provide your patients with the most complete information upon which they can make a decision; increase your case acceptance rate and make your day-to-day activities in the practice much more rewarding.
  • Occlusion: The primary function of teeth is for mastication, (setting aside the tremendous importance of the psychological benefits of having a beautiful smile) so it is time to look at occlusion from its functional end point back to the beginning. Do Occlusal schemes differ for a totally dentate individual with natural teeth; versus someone who has a dentition of part implant retained prosthetics and part natural teeth; versus someone who has a dentition of some implants; some natural teeth; and a removable prothesis? The permutations and combinations are numerous, and this section of the course will help solidify your knowledge and perhaps provide you with some fresh ideas.
  • Dental Implants: Without a doubt, dental implants have changed the face of dentistry forever. Are dental implants foolproof? Do they last forever? What is it that must be done to give the patient the very best and longest lasting dental implant treatment? This section will be a comprehensive look at the field of dental implants from a prosthodontic perspective which includes working with your implant surgeon so that your efforts are synergistic, complementary, and additive.
  • Implant Assisted Removable Partial Dentures: This treatment is the most under used implant treatment in general practice today. However, it is one of the most beneficial patient treatments that can be done to enhance function and aesthetics, when medical and dental issues, and finances preclude a patient from having what is considered the ‘optimum’ implant treatment. Surgical implant placement does not follow the norm!
  • Aesthetics: What makes a beautiful smile? Does everything have to match? Lithium Disilicate? Zirconia? Porcelain fused to metal? Full Gold Crowns? What you need to know to make your Aesthetic practice less complicated and more fulfilling when treating complex aesthetic cases.
  • Restoring Endodontically treated teeth: Endodontic treatments continue to be highly successful! Even though implants fail, should every effort still be made to restore endodontically treated teeth when it is reasonable? Cores, pins, posts, will be reviewed.
  • Cracked Teeth: The When – Where – How to deal with these complicated problems.
  • Planning Treatment and Sequencing: This section wraps it all up and co-ordinates a very complex set of dental problems so that the final treatment is done in a most patient centric sequence of processes.
