Itinerary

DAY 01: 09 AUG Arrival in Lisbon

  • Welcome to Lisbon.
    • Lisbon is one of the most fascinating cities in Europe! With blue skies almost, all year round and a mild winter, a picturesque setting, where old trams take you from the narrow-cobbled streets up to the excellent new hotels in broad boulevards, with fabulous shopping opportunities and a fantastic nightlife.
  • After customs, immigration and baggage collection, walk to the arrival hall where you are welcomed by our representative holding a paging board with your names and a Tourcan Vacations logo
  • You are helped with your luggage then chauffeured to Altis Avenida Hotel 5*. Check into the hotel 
  • In the afternoon, enjoy a Tuk Tuk tour to discover Lisbon’s History.
  • Drop-off at local restaurant and dinner with Fado show. 
  • Private transfer back to the hotel.

DAY 02: 10 AUG LISBON | SINTRA | CABO DA ROCA | GUINCHO | LISBON

  • Pick-up: 9:00am
  • Your driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to Sintra.
  • Notes: Dress comfortably and wear comfortable shoes, as you will be walking considerable distances during the day.
    • Upon arrival in Sintra, enjoy a guided tour of Quinta da Regaleira and its gardens, a place with a spirit all of its own. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, this example of the romantic style stands in the middle of the forest and is the result of a mythological dream of its owner, António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro. Visit its wonderful gardens with statues related to Greek mythology and explore its caves with waterfalls, its deep initiation well full of mystery and finish at the palace learning the story behind this exotic family.
    • In the center of Sintra, taste the famous and delicious Travesseiros.
    • At a time to be determined, you will be taken to Cabo da Roca, where the Earth ends and the Sea begins, the westernmost point of continental Europe. Located in the enchanting Serra de Sintra, prepare to be amazed by dramatic landscapes and the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean.
    • Then continue to the Furnas do Guincho restaurant, for lunch, which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. The terraces and interior have been designed and decorated for a welcoming and discreet leisure experience. The exceptional location overlooking the sea and the fish and seafood of the highest quality and freshness contribute to the outstanding role of this restaurant located in the beloved area of Cascais – Guincho.
  • After lunch, return to the hotel via Avenida Marginal, which will allow the group to learn more about the Lisbon Coast.

DAY 03: 11 AUG LISBON | AZEITÃO | SESIMBRA | ARRÁBIDA | LISBON

  • Pick-up: 9:00am
  • Your guide will take you back to your hotel later this afternoon.
    • The journey continues south, crossing the April 25 bridge over the River Tagus, to the Arrábida Natural Park. Jeeping is one of the best ways to discover the Arrábida Natural Park. Discover the region’s most interesting sights on a journey through the stunning landscapes of the Arrábida Natural Park. Sesimbra Castle, Portinho da Arrábida and the famous wineries of the Setubal region. In Azeitão, taste the famous “Moscatel” sweet wine.
  • Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
    • In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing boat trip through the Prof. Luiz Saldanha Marine Park, a marine park with a very high biodiversity (with more than 1350 species of marine fauna and flora) whose richness is unparalleled either in Portugal or in Europe. The Arrábida coast is the natural habitat of several species of dolphin. If you’re lucky, you might see some of these beautiful creatures! Lastly, you will return to your hotel.
  • Dinner at the hotel.

DAY 04: 12 AUG LISBON | FUNCHAL, MADEIRA – FLIGHT

  • Note: It is recommended you dress comfortably as you will be going on tour upon landing in Funchal (no skirt).
  • Pick-up: 5:00am
  • Early this morning, check out of the hotel and you are privately transferred to Lisbon airport to check in then board the flight to Madeira Island.   
  • Welcome to Madeira, pearl of the Atlantic.
    • The continuously mild climate is an invitation to discover the pearl of the Atlantic and discover the exotic vegetation and immerse yourself in the biggest laurel forest in the world. The calm and blue waters also offer a set of opportunities to ensure a unique and unforgettable holiday.
  • On arrival at Funchal airport and after baggage collection walk to the arrival hall where your local guide, holding a paging board with your names and our logo on it awaits.
  • You will depart the airport then start your tour (Includes Monte cable car and Carros de Cesto ride (toboggan). Enjoy a typical lunch at a local restaurant. Discover Funchal and enjoy the amazing and vibrant capital of Madeira, with the breath-taking viewpoint to Garajau and the painted doors of the old town. Enjoy the colours and smells of the market, the amazing view of the promenade on the sea. Right at the city’s heart, around the historic part of the town, walk through gastronomy and contemporary buildings such as the Farmers’ Market, Mercado dos Lavradores, Funchal’s most famous market (closes at 2pm), with all its exotic fruits and fresh flowers. 
    • Take the cable car to Monte, a well-known beautiful spot, famous for its amazingly lush gardens and splendid views over the city and beyond. The route to Livramento is in a very picturesque area and a thrilling ride of up to 30 Kms per hour. Enjoy the view over Funchal. The near Church of Our Lady of Monte is where Emperor Karl I, the last monarch of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, exiled to Madeira in 1921, is buried. Time to return to Funchal, you will try one of the oldest transports in Madeira, the Carros de Cestos (toboggans).
    • Ride down the toboggan in the traditional basket sledges which date back to early 19th century where they were used as a means of transport by the local residents who wanted to travel quickly from the village of Monte to the city of Funchal. For many years toboggan riding from Monte has been a very popular tourist attraction. The Toboggans are driven by two runners, dressed in white and wearing the typical hats known as straw boaters. The descent from Monte to Livramento is approximately 2 Kms and takes about 10 minutes to complete.  
    • At the end of the toboggan ride, your driver awaits to take you to your hotel. Check in then spend the rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 05: 13 AUG MADEIRA

  • Day at leisure. Explore on your own
  • Seminar 10 am to 1 pm
  • During the seminar hours, sidecar tour for those not attending, visiting Camara De Lobos, Cabo Girao, Campanario and Ribeira Brava. Followed by a Madeira Wine tour & tasting.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant. 
  • Accommodation: Savoy Palace
  • Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch & Dinner.

DAY 06: 14 AUG MADEIRA

  • Morning tour of North Madeira by 4X4 Jeeps, with wine tasting & Espetada lunch at Quinta do Barbusano winery.
  • Afternoon & evening is at leisure. 
  • Accommodation: Savoy Palace
  • Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

DAY 07: 15 AUG MADEIRA | PORTO  | DOURO VALLEY  FLIGHT

  • Pick-up: 6:15am
  • Note: Please depart the hotel with your breakfast packs; you will pick these up from the receptionist.
  • Check out of the hotel and meet your chauffeur in the hotel lobby you are transferred to Funchal airport to check in then board the flight to Porto.
  • On arrival at Porto airport and after baggage collection, walk to the arrival hall where your driver holding a placard with your names and a Tourcan Vacations logo awaits.
  • Depart the airport and you are privately transferred to The Vintage House Hotel in Douro Valley.
  • Arrive at the hotel, check in and lunch.
  • Spend the rest of the day resting and enjoying the hotel’s amazing facilities. The Douro wine region is the oldest demarcated zone to produce grapes in the entire world. Apart from its legacy, the region is also one of extreme beauty and stunning landscapes, making for one amazing ride! On arrival you will find yourself surrounded by wine-producing villages with stunning and endless views over all the wine terraces. As the sun sets and the day comes to an end, you will have the pleasure of resting on a vineyard. The Douro region reflects its proud people who live a traditional lifestyle, dedicating their time and will to producing the highest quality wine.

DAY 08: 16 AUG DOURO

  • Pick-up: 9:15am
  • Your guide will meet you at the hotel and you will set off for the Pinhão region.
    • In the morning, enjoy a ride in a Rabelo Boat along a fantastic stretch of the Douro River, starting from Pinhão, with no national roads on its banks.
    • On the way, you’ll see terraced vineyards all the way down to the river, centuries-old buildings of wine estates (Bomfim, Carvalhas, Roeda, Ventozelo, Pessegueiro, Roncão and Romaneira), in a unique landscape considered World Heritage by Unesco.
    • Then, at Quinta do Seixo, you’ll be able to live incredible experiences of connection to the historical heritage and nature that has been maintained with extreme care in this space, so that each visitor can also be part of its history.
    • You’ll have the opportunity to learn about the wine production process at this prestigious winery. Pass through the vineyards and prepare to be dazzled by the vivid colors of nature. A vivacity that takes on new shades as the seasons change. In addition to the undeniable beauty, it is here at Quinta do Seixo that our high quality wines are born and take shape. Something we can only achieve with a winery equipped with the most advanced winemaking technology and respecting the tradition of producing only great wines.
  • Return to the Vintage House Hotel for a picnic lunch.

DAY 9: 17 AUG DOURO VALLEY | AVEIRO | PORTO

  • Pick-up: 9:00am
  • Depart the hotel after breakfast and meet your driver and guide in the hotel lobby. Transfer from Six Senses Douro Valley to Aveiro.
    • Aveiro, known as the “Portuguese Venice”, enchants visitors with its picturesque canals, colorful moliceiros boats and stunning natural landscapes.
    • Moliceiro ride along the canals of the Ria de Aveiro in a traditional moliceiro boat, appreciating the Art Nouveau architecture and historic buildings.
    • Before lunch, taste the famous local sweet: Ovos Moles are a traditional Portuguese sweet made with egg yolks and sugar, originating in the city of Aveiro.
    • Set off for Costa Nova, a paradise for fish and seafood lovers. Its privileged location, between the Ria de Aveiro and the Atlantic Ocean, guarantees constant access to fresh, high-quality products. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
  • Afterwards, departure for Porto and check-in at The Yeatman.
    • The Yeatman is a luxury wine hotel and spa in Porto with spectacular views over the UNESCO World Heritage city and the Douro River.

DAY 10: 18 AUG PORTO| BRAGA | GUIMARÃES | PORTO

  • Pick-up: 9:00am
  • Breakfast at the hotel. Today’s tour is dedicated to the region of Minho.  Depart the hotel with your guide.
    • Start with a visit to Braga, an episcopal city rich in religious buildings. Explore the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, with its spectacular baroque staircase. It is a symbol of the Baroque in the north of the country, made of austere gray granite. Then there’s Guimarães, the cradle of the Portuguese nation and, according to tradition, the birthplace of Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal. Visit its historic center, declared a UNESCO Heritage Site, with its intertwined, well-kept streets and its medieval appearance. Highlights include the Castle and the Ducal Palace before returning to the hotel.
  • Return to the hotel.

DAY 11: 19 AUG PORTO – CITY TOUR

  • Pick-up: 8:30am
  • Ready to explore Porto? Your guide will enlighten you on this city tour.
    • Built on the right bank of the Douro, Porto offers the contrasts of a city that is both ancient and modern. Visit its highlights such as the old Ribeira district, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Baroque churches, the elegant metal bridges, and the wine cellars.
    • Visit the S. Bento train station, with its magnificent azulejos (tiles) which evoke the traditional life in Northern Portugal (rural scenes), as well as the great episodes of the history of the country. Discover the Stock Exchange Palace (upon availability), a historical building with a mix of architectural styles. Highlight to the magnificent Arab room (Salão Árabe). Walk through the picturesque Ribeira district, the historic heart of Porto. A tour in Porto would never be complete without a visit to a Port wine cellar. Head to one of the several wine cellars, in the other bank of River Douro, in Gaia, and learn about its production, storage methods and all the secrets that make this nectar one of the most appreciated in the world.
    • In the afternoon, discover Casa de Serralves, built in the 1930s and one of the best examples of the Art
    • Deco movement in Europe. The house is located at the Park of Serralves, a unique landmark of Portuguese landscape, which spreads harmoniously throughout eighteen acres of magnificent gardens, a traditional farmhouse and even a small forest.
  • Return to the hotel to rest and relax in the hotel’s facilities.

DAY 12: 20 AUG PORTO

  • Enjoy the day to explore Porto on your own. 
  • In evening, you will be picked-up by the driver and transfer to Barão Fladgate where you will enjoy a farewell dinner.

DAY 13: 21 AUG PORTO | LISBON |  DEPART

  • Check out of the hotel after breakfast. Meet your private chauffer for your last transfer to Porto airport. Check in then board your onward flight
