Orthodontics for the General Practice
Dr. Derek Pollard grew up in Coquitlam, British Columbia. He attended Simon Fraser University for undergraduate studies, majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in Biochemistry, graduating with honors in 2002. After leaving SFU, he headed east and attended the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Dentistry and graduated with honors with a Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2007.
Following graduation, Derek briefly practiced general dentistry in Winnipeg and in Northern Manitoba, and then decided to pursue his passion for Orthodontics. He returned to the University of Manitoba and entered their 3 year Graduate Orthodontic program, obtaining a Masters degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in 2011.
That summer, Dr. Pollard and his wife Courtney relocated to Kelowna, British Columbia. He started Mission Creek Orthodontics in February of 2012, opened two satellite practices (Merritt in 2013, West Kelowna in 2015), and bought another established orthodontic practice in central Kelowna in 2019.
Aside from work, Derek loves to keep active in his spare time with activities such as skiing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, biking, and golf. Derek and his wife Courtney also have two very energetic kids that keep them on their toes.
Dr. Derek Pollard is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a member of the Canadian Dental Association, Canadian Association of Orthodontics, and College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia. He is also the founder of the Kelowna Orthodontic Study Club (KOSC).
