Orthodontics for the GP – How to improve results and avoid trouble!
Dr. Derek Pollard is originally from Coquitlam, BC. He received a Bachelor of Science with honors at Simon Fraser University where he majored in Kinesiology and minored in Biochemistry. After leaving SFU, he headed east to the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Dentistry and graduated with honors in 2007. Derek briefly practiced general dentistry in Winnipeg and in Northern Manitoba before returning to the U of M Graduate Orthodontic program, obtaining a Masters degree in 2011.
Following graduation, Dr. Pollard and his wife Courtney relocated out to beautiful Kelowna, BC. He owns and operates 3 orthodontic practices in the area – Mission Creek, Kelowna, and West Kelowna Orthodontics.
Aside from work, Derek loves to keep active in his spare time with activities such as skiing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, biking, and golf. Him and his wife Courtney also have two very energetic kids aged 9 (Isla) and 6 (Clarke).
Dr. Pollard is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a member of the Canadian Dental Association, Canadian Association of Orthodontics, and College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia. He is also the founder of the Kelowna Orthodontic Study Club (KOSC).

Marvin Leventer DDS

Essentials of sedation for dentistry
Dr. Leventer received his dental degree from the University of Maryland in 1990. He then completed a General Practice Residency, and a Dental Anesthesiology Residency at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in New York. Dr. Leventer is a Diplomat of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology where he is also on the Board of Directors and serves as a board examiner. He is also a member of the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists, the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association. Dr. Leventer is committed to providing dental care without pain or anxiety.
Dr. Leventer started his academic career in 1997 as a part time clinical instructor in Dental Anesthesiology at the University of Maryland Dental School while maintaining a private general dental practice with a focus on anesthesia for dentistry. In 2009 he became a full time Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland. He provides sedation and general anesthesia within the dental school, practices general dentistry in the faculty practice and provides dental services at the University of Maryland Hospital. He has presented many CE courses for the use of sedation and anesthesia in dentistry
He spends much of his spare time running and mountain biking and has completed many ultra-marathons and triathlons.

Dr. Hagen Klieb

Oral Pathology – A refresher
Dr. Hagen Klieb, is a certified oral and maxillofacial medicine and pathology specialist at the University of Toronto’s Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center. He is cross appointed to the departments of dentistry and anatomic pathology. He is active in post-graduate dental and medical education and his research interests pertain to novel therapies for autoimmune disorders.

Dr. Melanie Gilbert

Oral Cancer : The Journey and the Role of the Dentist
Dr. Melanie Gilbert is a dental oncologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center with a practice dedicated to the management of medically compromised patients including head and neck and haematologic malignancies. She is active in post-graduate medical and dental education.
