COURSE
Speaker/Host: Dr. Allen Burgoyne
Title: SURGICAL AND PROSTHETIC TREATMENT PLANNING AND COMPLICATIONS
The course will focus on guidelines for surgical and prosthetic treatment in implant dentistry and their role in the management of complications, both biological and mechanical. Particular attention will be devoted to cement vs. screw-retained prosthetics and their impact on complications. In addition, infraocclusion due to growth will be presented, and addressed within the full range of mechanical and biological complications.
Learning Objectives
•To identify biological complications in implant dentistry
•To identify hardware complications and implant failures
•To identify mechanical and technical risks in implant dentistry
•To diagnose complication and failure rates with cemented versus screw-retained reconstructions
More and more, dental implant therapy is becoming a preferred treatment option.Dental clinicians are faced with treating surgical and restorative complications that arise from dental implant treatment. Complications can occur for a multitude of reasons: improper treatment planning or site augmentation; soft tissue mismanagement; implant malpositioning; and peri-implantitis.
Topics discussed will help clinicians identify and address implant complications, understand the reasons they occur, determine treatment and solutions, and understand how to avoid them through prevention methodologies such as proper planning, patient selection and timely treatment.
Participants will walk away with an understanding of:
When do we talk about complications?
Biological and technical/mechanical complications (e.g. peri-implantitis)
Identifying risk factors and avoiding potential implant complications in patients with systemic disorders
Proper restorative and surgical treatment planning to help prevent dental
implant complications
The malpositioned implant/prosthetic solutions
Implant esthetics
material will be presented in lecture format
